hold you still

i strike a pose
like a statue to fool life
to pass me unnoticed
before it slithers its chasing arms around me.

stop breathing for a quick second
so i can hold the time still
the illusion of a steady hand reaching your face
to look at your eyes before they pass me again.

my hands go down your shoulders
so i can rest the weight of me on them
the lone shadow that followed me here
wants to eclipse before you pass me again.

but my breath gave me away
oh what a woe, the need to inhale for life
an orphan gift wed the breeder of souls
like an embrace towards its own demise.
